homelab Proxmox

In all candor, Proxmox is partially in the homelab because it was the first open source type 1 hypervisor I came across. While quite powerful, I had no desire to run Openstack in the homelab. I had concerns about the long term viability of vmware (they have proven to be justified) and, showing my ignorance, I never seriously considered XCP-ng. So Proxmox was kinda the default choice. Thankfully, it has also proven to be stable, reliable and flexible. After some yak shaving Proxmox was up and running.

Actually, I installed it 3 times – all of which were necessitated by me. After attempt 1, I decided I wanted to use a different file system. After attempt 2, I decided I didn’t like the layout of ZFS. Attempt 3, seems like a keeper but one never knows…

Presently, Proxmox is hosting Ubuntu ServerUbuntu Desktop and KaOS. Will likely deploy 2-3 additional VMs, possibly 6-7 as I am not a fan of containers which would be the other deployment choice for some software. The community has proven to be active and helpful, the UI extensive, and the documentation thorough. Each installation has been drama free (that is high praise from me). Everything is great thus far.
